L’exposition juxtapose les gravures de Giovanni Battista Piranesi avec l’installation de Chiharu Shiota, Stairway, créée en 2012.

Piranesi was famous for his Carceri d’invenzione, a series of etchings of fictitious and atmospheric ‘prisons’. The web of black yarn which surrounds the rising steps in Stairway, creates angles and spaces which echo those in Piranesi’s invented architectural fantasies. The prisons exist in the artists’ imagination and snare dreams and memories.
